  • ¼ cup unsweetened almond milk optional
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice optional
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger optional
  • ½ –1 teaspoon honey optional

  • Matcha bowl or small bowl
  • Bamboo matcha whisk (chasen) or small whisk
  • Glass or cup

Method

Sift the matcha
  1. Place the matcha powder through a fine-mesh sieve into a small bowl or matcha cup to remove lumps.
Add hot water
  1. Pour in 2 tablespoons of hot water and whisk briskly with a bamboo matcha whisk (chasen) until the matcha is smooth and lightly frothy.
Add the remaining liquid
  1. Pour in the remaining water and stir well. For a creamier drink, add unsweetened almond milk.
Add optional flavors
  1. Add lemon juice or freshly grated ginger if desired. If you prefer a sweeter drink, add a small amount of honey and stir until dissolved.
